Environment

  • Boen multi-layer sports flooring makes exceptionally frugal use of limited natural resources in comparison to solid wood. The use of hardwood is limited to the wear surface and recognises that the use of slower growing hardwood below the tongue and groove is a waste of a valuable and limited natural resource. - even on a solid wood product it is impossible to sand down further than to the tongue and grooved joint.
  • Our products are manufactured from sustainable sources, and the FSC seal of approval is provided to verify our commitment to only using products from forest areas which are properly managed with a high degree of regeneration.
  • The manufacture of our flooring produces no toxic or dangerous by-products.
  • Our only by-products are natural sawdust and shavings which are used in the factory's furnace to produce heat for the drying kilns and hot water.
  • Our glues, lacquers and oils produce no dangerous gases or other harmful by-products.

60% of the material used in Boen's boards is fast growing spruce, the use of which also ensures a very stable product.

EN14904 - A New European Requirement for Indoor Sports Halls

The new European standard for indoor sports halls finally came into force in spring 2006.

Twelve years in preparation, it supersedes the current British standard BS7044, and provides a more stringent set of requirements in terms of a sports floors overall performance.

The main testing criteria are based around the following:

  • Shock Absorption
  • Friction
  • Vertical Deflection
  • Vertical Ball Behaviour
  • Resistance to a rolling load

Following extensive testing at the independent Centre for Sports Technology both Boflex and Arenasport sports floor systems have achieved a certificate of compliance to this new standard.
