Reflex joins 'green spec' at corby international pool
Kährs 15mm Oak Ardenne and Reflex Multisport Oak wood flooring, by Kährs, has been specified at Corby's new East Midlands International Pool complex. Installed by Capital Floors for sports floor specialist, Reflex Sports Ltd, the £19m complex is part of the Parkland Gateway Regeneration Scheme for Corby Town Centre. In addition to exceeding Disability Discrimination Act requirements, the building was designed, by S & P Architects, to be sustainable and will gain the BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) 'Very Good' standard. Reflex's Multisport floor, in particular, gained a BREEAM A Rating, which assisted the project's overall score.
Located on a former car park, close to the town's former swimming pool, the new complex is included in both the London 2012's Olympic and Paralympic Pre-Games Training Camp Guides and will be a regional competition facility. Housed under an iconic 'glulam' beamed ceiling, the facility includes three pools, a 70 station modern gym, dance facilities, a health suite, crèche and café.
Kährs flooring was installed throughout the gymnasium, dance studio and corridor areas, totaling a floor area of over 780 m². All products benefit from a durable solvent-free matt lacquer prefinish and multi layered construction; by using sustainable hardwood above the joint only, the floors provide an eco-friendly flooring option, in line with design criteria. The construction method also provides 75% greater stability, in all levels of humidity, compared to a traditional solid sports floor. Meanwhile, Kährs glueless Woodloc® joint provides fast installation and locks boards together, providing a surface that will remain gap-free throughout the lifetime of the floor.
